CHOIR

Formed in 2018 by husband and wife duo Jamie and Steph along with best friend Mark, Vocalize Choir began it's life in a small village hall in Alderholt, Hampshire.

"Our ambition was to create an engaging, inspiring and fun atmosphere for local people to enjoy their passion for music in the community. Over the years, with more and more members joining, we outgrew our humble beginnings and moved to a larger venue in Verwood, Dorset."

Vocalize Choir now has over 40 regular members, "Vocalizers", who rehearse weekly on a Thursday evening to create an annual show - Vocalize Live! We have also performed at numerous local events and festivals over the years including ReCreate Festival in Alderholt and The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Party in Verwood. Additionally we have had the opportunity to create our own original songs and music videos courtesy of Angel Food Studios, run by a member of our choir.

July 2024 saw the start of Vocalize Youth - a group aimed specifically at 7-17 year olds to nurture their confidence, ability and love of music from a younger age. Find out more about Vocalize Youth here

Our initial vision still remains at the centre of everything we do - a community of people, regardless of background, can join and enjoy learning to sing, dance and perform year after year.

MEET THE COACHES

Rocking the stage since... forever!

Between them, our coaches have over 50 years experience of singing and performing both as soloists and in bands and choirs.Each coach brings their own unique style and personality to teaching, always with an open mind, encouragement and honesty. We understand the pressure and nerves that come with performing for audiences of all sizes so can bring those experiences to rehearsals and 1-1 sessions to help improve, nurture and grow members confident and ability.

Steph - Director & Vocal Coach

Steph has been performing since the age of 15 in front of live audiences. Starting off singing in local towns and cities and many local singing competitions, she went on to sing all over the UK and abroad; countries include Spain, Switzerland and Italy.

Steph successfully got through to bootcamp of X-Factor at the age of 17 with her audition showing on the ITV show. She then went on to support acts such as Lemar, Heatwave, Alexander O'Neill, The Drifters and other finalists from the X-Factor and also completed backing vocals on an album for Yazz.

Mark - Choreographer & Vocal Coach

Mark has always loved music having played piano and keyboard since the age of 6. Mark joined a Southampton based pop and rock choir in 2014 and has experienced performing for large audiences for a number of years both in groups and as a soloist.

Outside of singing, Mark has worked in the travel and hospitality industry since 2010, and is currently leading international trade sales and marketing strategies for a global cruise line. Mark was named one of the top 30 under 30 professionals in the UK travel industry.

Mark is also a graduate of the BAST vocal coaching course.

Jamie - Performance & Vocal Coach

Jamie started performing at the age of 13 taking on the leading role of Danny Zuko in a children's version of Grease.

Jamie was also a member of a Southampton based performance choir taking part in shows and events locally. Married to Steph, both have been gigging together for a number of years at corporate and private events and along with Mark and another friend perform in a function band, The Four Tones.

Outside of the choir, Jamie is the Owner and Director of local glazing firm Verwood & Ringwood Glass
